AG BBQ I 8/28/21 - Official Thread
Posted: Wed Jun 09, 2021 10:38 am
I'm not even going to try to write some kind of insightful intro here that summarizes what it took for all of us to get to the point where we can plan on making this happen again. Let's just say that a lot has happened to us all since the last BBQ. I'm so very glad that we are making this happen.
In round numbers, the BBQ costs me about $2,000 to host every year. Most of that is the expense to book the cottage for the week before and after at the event (which directly funds the ongoing costs of owning the BBQ's "venue"). A good chunk goes into renting the grill and the tent as well. Speaking frankly, I don't have the same amount of disposable income as I did in previous years. I've never put a number to it before, but if everyone that attends could toss me $50 or so, via PayPal or otherwise, it would be massively appreciated. If not, 100% no big deal.
Speak up below to get your name on the attendee list. Especially this year, it's the only way to have any idea how many people are going to show up. Also, if you're in contact with anyone that has come before but isn't on the new forums or in the Slack, please reach out and let them know what's going down.
BTW, this is probably already widely known, but this BBQ is only open to folks that are fully vaccinated. Sadly, that means no kids under 12 allowed this year.
That's it for now, but this thread will evolve...
Parking:
Let's start with parking. Forget the rules of the past (except the one about not parking over the septic tank). I think enough space has been cleaner out in the driveway that most attendees can find a spot, just don't be shy about how close you pull up to other cars.
Dates:
Friday Afternoon - Disk Golf? 8/27
We're going to try something new and see if the really early birds want to get together for a round of disk golf at Paw Paw park. More details to come.
Friday Evening - Pre-Party 8/27
Anyone that gets into town early and wants to hang out at the cottage and eat some pizza is welcome!
Saturday Early Afternoon - Main Event 8/28
You know the drill, show up between 11:00 and 1:00 and be ready to feast around 2:00.
Saturday Night - TR After Dark 8/28
Looks like there's a chance for fireworks again this year! At the very least there will be plenty of sitting around in the dark and chatting until the bugs drive everyone indoors to sleep.
Sunday Morning - Lakeside Breakfast 8/29
Anyone still in the area is invited to come back to the cottage and enjoy what's become the traditional breakfast feast served up by my mom and pitch in with cleaning up the aftermath of the BBQ.
...and now we start the attendee list!
