In the slack, Flying Fox asked "What (GPU) can people with <$300 get?" A snarky answer was that they can get abused by leather jacket billionaire, but I looked at PCPartpicker.com to see what was currently available.

GPU prices (as of 11/17/2022) and % of RTX4090 performance at 1440p:
$150 Radeon RX 580 8GB - 18.2%
$290 GeForce RTX 3050 8GB - 26.3%
$330 GeForce RTX 2060 12GB - 27.0%
$190 Radeon RX 6600 8GB - 32.2% <--- Best value. Performs well at 1080p.
$467 GeForce RTX 2060 Super 8GB - 33.7%
$370 GeForce RTX 3060 12GB - 36.7%
$280 Radeon RX 6600XT 8GB - 38.3%
$290 Arc A750 8GB - 38.6%
$260 Radeon RX 6650XT 8GB - 39.6% <--- Good value
$350 Arc A770 16GB - 43.5%
$330 Radeon RX 6700 10GB - 44.3%
$380 GeForce RTX 3060Ti 8GB - 48.7%
$350 Radeon RX 6700XT 12GB - 51.3% <--- Fair value. Performs well at 1440p.
$500 GeForce RTX 3070 8GB - 54.1%
$400 Radeon RX 6750XT 12GB - 54.6%

The data support The Egg's conclusion that the Radeon RX 6600 is currently a good option for 1080p. The next best values are the Radeon RX 6600XT and then the Radeon RX 6700XT. The latter is a solid performer for 1440p.
