Week 6

Sunday, 10/18
Denver Broncos at New England Patriots
Houston Texans at Tennessee Titans
Cleveland Browns at Pittsburgh Steelers
Baltimore Ravens at Philadelphia Eagles
Washington Football Washers at New York Giants
Cincinnati Bengals at Indianapolis Colts
Atlanta Falcons at Minnesota Vikings
Detroit Lions at Jacksonville Jaguars
Chicago Bears at Carolina Panthers
New York Jets at Miami Dolphins
Green Bay Packers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Sunday Night Football
Los Angeles Rams at San Francisco 49ers

Monday, 10/19
Kansas City Chiefs at Buffalo Bills

Monday Night Football, 10/19
Arizona Cardinals at Dallas Cowboys

Unfortunately my Colts got news of positive COVID tests, so that game is up in the air until we have more concrete news.

I feel like this week will be a turning point for some teams, so picks are limited. I'm taking the Vikings over the Falcons just because that's an established head coach against an interim. I'm also taking Flores and his Dolphins over Gase and his mess, and with all the drama from last week, I am taking the Rams over the 9ers in prime time. Normally I would take the home team, coming off a loss, in a divisional matchup, but the Rams are looking good again.

If the Rams pick isn't good, it should still be a good game, so that leads games to watch on Sunday. Packers/Bucs should also be good, and Chiefs/Bills is the better matchup on Monday.

EDIT: Huzzah! Colts' re-tests came back negative!

FiveThirtyEight is currently projecting the Eagles to win the NFC LEast with a 6-9-1 record.

While this is possible (and I like Pederson as a coach), I feel like this analysis severely undervalues Andy Dalton as a QB. I feel like he can get at least 7 wins for the Cowboys, maybe even 9.

Agreed. Dalton is good enough to keep the Cowboys offense going.

The Minnesota Vikings and getting embarrassed at home. Is there a more perfect duo? Riverboat Ron gives Joe Judge his first victory as head coach, the Bears are making their case to be a respected 5-1 team, the Jets remain the only winless team in the league, and the Packers just boned it up in Tampa.

The Jets didn't look like they belonged in the same league as the Dolphins. They've earned their 0-6 record. It seems very unlikely that you cut your starting running back and trade away your starting nose tackle unless you're trying to tank.

On the other side, the Steelers, Titans and Seahawks are all 5-0, though the Titans needed to come from behind to tie the game at the end and let Derrick Henry roll in overtime to beat 73½ year old Romeo Crennel's Texans. I should have started Tannehill instead of Roethlisberger for my fantasy team. As the Steelers steamrolled the Browns, they quit passing and just handed the ball to James Conner.

You think Gase still has his job because the front office knows he's terrible? And playing with a terrible coach means a higher likelihood of tanking effectively?

I'm taking 4 road teams as picks this week, just for fun. Okay, not entirely for fun. First, I'm taking the Packers and Bills in bounce-back games against weaker opponents. Bills should be an easy win (and more embarrassment for New York), and while the Pack are facing an opponent eager to win, I think Rodgers and LaFleur know they have to make adjustments to keep their season on track. Testing that in Houston seems like a good idea. I am also picking two of the best teams in division matchups: KC and Seattle. These picks feel risky after the Broncos showed promise and Arizona's production this season, but the Chiefs are still the Chiefs, and Seattle are coming off their bye. Hoping both of those games are good.

And if there are other games to watch, I would probably pencil in Steelers/Titans and Bears/Rams for sure. The battle between undefeated teams should tell us a lot about one of them at least, and the Bears and Rams are two teams fighting to prove themselves.

EDIT: Hawks/Cards got moved into prime time (sticking with the Hawks). Bucs/Raiders into an afternoon slot.
